Para Pahlawan Dunia Teknologi Informasi

Kemajuan dunia teknologi informasi yang sangat pesat saat ini, tidak lepas dari peran para pahlawan yang tertulis di bawah ini. Kita bisa belajar dari ketekunan, sikap pantang menyerah, kreativitas dan inovasi, dan jiwa sosial mereka untuk menciptakan kehidupan dunia yang lebih baik. Berikut adalah ungkapan terkenal yang pernah mereka ucapkan:

William Henry Gates III (lahir di Seattle, Washington, 28 Oktober 1955; umur 54 tahun), lebih dikenal sebagai Bill Gates, adalah pendiri (bersama Paul Allen) dan pemimpin perusahaan perangkat lunak AS, Microsoft. Ia juga merupakan seorang filantropis melalui kegiatannya di Yayasan Bill & Melinda Gates. Ia menempati posisi pertama dalam orang terkaya di dunia versi majalah Forbes selama 13 tahun (1995 hingga 2007), namun sejak 5 Maret 2008 berada di posisi ketiga setelah pebisnis AS Warren Buffett dan pebisnis Meksiko Carlos Slim Helú.

Steven Paul Jobs (lahir di San Francisco, California, Amerika Serikat, 24 Februari 1955; umur 55 tahun) adalah pemimpin perusahaan Apple Computer dan tokoh utama di industri komputer. Sebagai pendiri (dengan Steve Wozniak) Apple Computer di tahun 1976, ia mempopulerkan konsep komputer di rumah tangga dengan Apple II. Kemudian, ia merupakan salah satu orang yang pertama kali menyadari potensi untuk mengomersialkan antarmuka pengguna grafis (graphical user interface) dan mouse yang dikembangkan di Palo Alto Research Center perusahaan Xerox, dan kemudian teknologi ini diterapkannya ke dalam Apple Macintosh. Jobs juga memimpin Pixar Animation Studios, sebuah perusahaan komputer animasi terkemuka di dunia layar lebar.

Lawrence Edward "Larry" Page (lahir di Lansing, Michigan, 26 Maret 1973; umur 37 tahun) adalah salah satu pendiri dari mesin pencari internet Google dan saat ini adalah presiden produk pada Google Inc. Page adalah seorang lulusan dari East Lansing High School. Page memperoleh gelar Bachelor of Science dalam teknik komputer dari Universitas Michigan dengan pujian dan seorang lulusan Master dari Universitas Standford. Ketika menjadi seorang siswa di program Ph.D. ilmu komputer Universitas Stanford, Page bertemu Sergey Brin. Bersama mereka menjalankan mesin pencari Google, yang mulai beroperasi pada 1998.

Robert Norton Noyce (December 12, 1927 – June 3, 1990), nicknamed "the Mayor of Silicon Valley", co-founded Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957 and Intel in 1968. He is also credited (along with Jack Kilby) with the invention of the integrated circuit or microchip. While Kilby's invention was six months earlier, neither man rejected the title of co-inventor. Noyce was also a mentor and father-figure to an entire generation of entrepreneurs, including Steve Jobs at Apple, Inc.

Onno Widodo Purbo (lahir di Bandung, Jawa Barat, 17 Agustus 1962; umur 48 tahun) adalah seorang tokoh yang kemudian lebih dikenal sebagai pakar di bidang teknologi informasi asal Indonesia. Ia memulai pendidikan akademis di ITB pada jurusan Teknik Elektro pada tahun 1981. Enam tahun kemudian ia lulus dengan predikat wisudawan terbaik, kemudian melanjutkan studi keKanada dengan beasiswa dari PAUME. RT/RW-Net adalah salah satu dari sekian banyak gagasan yang dilontarkan. Ia juga aktif menulis dalam bidang teknologi informasi media, seminar, konferensi nasional maupun internasional. Percaya filosofi copyleft, banyak tulisannya dipublikasi secara gratis di internet.
